User Type Switcher: Benefits

User Type Switcher lets you serve private consumers and business customers in one store, capturing the company details you need for B2B orders right where the customer already is: the checkout and their address book. Instead of running separate stores or bolting on a clumsy "are you a business?" workaround, shoppers pick Private or Business.

This extension is built for Venta Theme and uses Tailwind CSS and CSP-safe AlpineJS.

Key Business Benefits

  • Serve B2B and B2C in a single store

    • One checkout and one address book handle both private consumers and business buyers, so you don't need parallel stores or separate flows to sell to companies.
  • Capture the company data you need for B2B

    • When a shopper selects Business, the Company, VAT Number and Registration Number fields appear and are collected as part of the normal address form, giving you the details you need for compliant invoicing.
  • Automatic tax exemption for VAT-registered businesses

    • Tax can be removed automatically for a Business customer that has a VAT ID, controlled by a dedicated store-config flag, with no manual price adjustments or coupon workarounds.
  • Cleaner UX: fields only show when relevant

    • Private shoppers see no extra fields, so consumers aren't confronted with company and VAT inputs they'll never use, keeping the consumer checkout short.
    • Business fields are revealed on demand and hidden inputs are disabled, so a hidden required field can never silently block submission.
  • Consistency between My Account and checkout

    • The same Private / Business toggle appears at checkout and on the My Account address form, and a saved type is pre-selected when a customer edits an address.
  • Data captured everywhere it matters

    • The chosen type and its fields persist onto the quote, the order and the customer address, so the information carries from checkout through to the customer's saved address book.
  • Fewer input errors on VAT numbers

    • An advisory, per-country VAT-number format check warns on a malformed number for recognised EU prefixes, helping customers catch typos, while never blocking a number they know is correct.
  • Safe to roll out

    • Disabled by default and fully inert while off: no UI, no scripts, and no address or tax changes until you deliberately enable it, so it can be added ahead of time and switched on when you're ready.
  • Aligned with performance best practices

    • Tailwind CSS and CSP-safe AlpineJS are used, compatible with Hyvä's Content Security Policy build.

Example Use Cases

  • Mixed B2B / B2C storefronts

    • Retailers selling to both consumers and companies from the same catalogue can let each buyer self-identify, capturing company and VAT details only from those who need them.
  • VAT-exempt cross-border business sales

    • For VAT-registered business customers, tax can be removed automatically at checkout once a VAT ID is present, so compliant B2B pricing needs no manual intervention.
  • Wholesale and trade accounts

    • Business buyers can save their company, VAT and registration details to their address book once, then re-use a pre-filled Business address on every future order.
  • Markets with company registration requirements

    • Where a registration number is expected on invoices, the dedicated Registration Number field captures it alongside the company and VAT details and carries it through to the order.
  • Admin-created B2B orders

    • The same tax handling applies to orders placed from the admin, so business orders created by your sales team are treated consistently with storefront checkout.
